The weather is not an excuse

Stick with me here for a little encouragement/ tough love in true Coach Rachelle fashion?

Our air conditioner broke last summer and we haven’t had it fixed yet so I feel I’m coming from a fair position. Of course, with the current heat we’re having, we want you to stay safe, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. But I’m not going to say, “stay cool.”

Why?

Because what’s wrong with getting a little hot and sweaty? It’s actually good for you! Did you know that? Dr. Anna Lembke, in her book “Dopamine Nation,” says that we all have a pleasure-pain seesaw in our brains. “Pressing on the pain side of the balance can lead to its opposite – pleasure.” According to Dr. Lembke, when you increase your temperature by exercising and sweating for several minutes, you feel pain and/or discomfort. This has the effect of “righting” the pain-pleasure balance and can lead to a gradual 100-200% rise in dopamine!

And let’s be honest…if it’s not the heat now, it will be the rain in 2 months. It will always be something.

-“Work is really busy right now.”

-“I don’t have time for myself.”

-“I’m not a morning person.”

-“The cat just got her vaccinations.”

There’s always an excuse.

You are a victim of what you continue to allow to defeat you, throw you off course, and sabotage your efforts. Of course, we cannot always control our circumstances but we can control how we respond and what actions we do or don’t take. And you’re a smart cookie! I know you know how to find a way to make things happen.

So if you’re here, reading this now, it’s because you want something. You’re looking for change. But how will you get what you want if there is always an excuse standing in your way? You have to want what you want more than what you want right now.

Did you catch that? Read it again….I’ll wait…

So that comfy couch that’s sucking you in right now? You have to want the fitness and mobility and strength that comes from exercise more than you want the comfort that couch offers.

That dessert you want right now? You have to want weight loss, or feeling better in your jeans, or better glucose management, or a healthier gut, less inflammation, clearer skin, better sleep, improved mental health, (I could go one) more than you want the momentary dopamine hit that cake offers.

What do you want? What do you need to remove from your schedule so that you can make room for the time and energy it will take to commit to your new healthy lifestyle? What in your daily routine could you move, adjust, or flex so that you can get what you say you want?

Make a plan. Commit to it. Tell someone about the changes you’re making. And GO DO IT!

yes. you. can.

My Mask.

My goal is to live a healthy, whole life, paying attention to my whole life, for my whole life.

But I haven’t always been this way. I was unhealthy, stuck in a rut with a fixed mindset, and hiding behind shame, self-doubt, and the complacency of it all. I finally decided to show up for my life. I did the work. And now I know some stuff that I want to share with you. That’s what this blog is all about.

I want to give you everything I know. Everything I’ve learned. I want to show you the truth behind nutrition, health, fitness, well-being (it’s so basic it’s almost funny in that ironic, painful sort of way) and inspire you to step into the life you were created to live. I want to serve you (I’ll do the work, the research, the writing) and all you need to do is show up here, read it, learn it, and apply it to your life so you can serve others too. Deal?

Because here’s the thing: I need you. The world needs YOU. We need you to show up! You have gifts, talents, life experiences, wisdom, humor, love, kindness, and worth that I believe our creator designed specifically with you in mind to live a fully, unabashedly whole life.

When you harbor sickness, weakness, exhaustion, shame, doubt, fear, sorrow, or anger you hide behind a mask that is not you and was never intended for you to wear. This mask keeps you from us. It steals your peace and confidence. Your joy. Your faith. Without which you cannot, will not, and do not serve others. I’ve seen it.

That was me.

I hid behind a mask which means I did not live into my fullest potential. I certainly didn’t put myself out there. I was too afraid to love others and I was embarrassed that I was not living the life I felt called to live. I was not living into my potential and I knew it. I knew it the same way you know it now.

We have this authentic, best version of self within us and it’s always trying to manifest. When we ignore it and live inauthentically it hurts. It’s like an offense to self that creates this feedback loop of negative feelings and lack of motivation. We know when we aren’t living out our values and beliefs, dreams and hopes, because we feel like we’re on the hamster wheel from hell. Around and around and around.

It’s time for change. You know it and I know it.

It’s time to step off (or jump off) the hamster wheel and start becoming the person you really want to be. It’s not easy, I know. Nothing worth anything ever is. So decide right now to start with that first, tiny step forward. If you’ll let me, I’d love to be part of your journey to a WholeLife

get well. stay well. because you absolutely can!
